I was about to say that it was the pink panthers who wore those, beat me to it. They were an alawite pro-Syrian militia based up in Tripoli, only notable thing about them were those goofy uniforms.

That's definitely not an israeli tank; first of all, the Israelis received the M48A2C initially, while this is a M48A1, with the initial engine deck and 90mm gun; secondly, by 1982 all israeli M48s had been upgraded with a diesel engine and 105mm gun, plus Blazer ERA. Which means it is probably a Lebanese tank. I think someone posted pics of a M48A1 junkyard in the Lebanese Armed Forces thread.
correct gents, I just quoted and didn't even noticed about the plates and all the other details. I found also strange to see a M48 in beirut, in my mind, only M60, Centurions and Merkavas saw action in lebannon.. of course I can be wrong.
post modified anyway.

great photos, brings back many memories. Nice to see someone doing a thread on the middle east with such a lot of emotional content while at the same time being non-partisan and apolitical.
great thread
M48s did see action in Lebanon, and Blazer ERA equipped examples were captured by the Syrians, one of which currently resides at Kubinka and at least another one in Damascus.
Funny thing is that the arabic script on the rear fender can also be read as the word "GASTON", at least that's what it resembles at a glance.
