So maybe the security has rifles for special situations and there was something going on back then, I don't know.
Maybe they were awaiting someone. Could be that it was a masked "suprsie" for a special guest. I saw then a few days after the war, when the MIA took over the patrol points next to the Russo-Ossetian ones. They were clothed in civilian dress carrying Tavors.

I am not sure because there were only two of them and they were wearing uniforms, and with those rifles they were very noticeable my guess it was just an added security for someone's visit.

Is this SPG-9 even any good? it looks like something from a battle for Berlin...

Yeah, it's pretty old but does it's job. Haven't seen much of it in use though. Either only a number of it in the anti-tank units or National Guard / Reserve.

Carl Gustav recoilless rifle is far older than SPG. just said.
both are deadly with right application and a wide range of ammunition.

At least Carl Gustav is easily transportable, and by the looks of SPG-9 it is going to be a pain in the backside to move it. But then again it just looks like it (maybe its actually good in applications)

Carl Gustaf - The use of the recoilless firing system allowed the Carl Gustav to use ammunition containing considerably more propellant, firing its rounds at 290 m/s

    SPG-9 - 435 m/s

.... and transport is not nessesarily by foot, at least not for long distance. A few SPG-9s via truck or jeep.

Don''t worry, Georgians know how to choose artillery equipement. Not that there is a great sortiment from whereever anyway ....

Angelina Jolie Visited Georgian Soldiers in Hospital

Hollywood Film Star and a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Angelina Jolie visited Georgian military servicemen in the military hospital in Germany. Currently, two Georgian soldiers - the 32nd Battalion Company Commander of the III Infantry Brigade, Captain Aluda Seturidze and Corporal of the same Battalion Ednar Abuladze are being undergone treatment in military hospital.

Georgian peacekeepers served under the US peace contingent in Helmand province within the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) peacekeeping mission.

In NATO-led security operation the 32nd Infantry Battalion of Land Forces of GAF was rotated by the 33rd Infantry Battalion step by step. The rotation is already completed at present.
