Hey guys you were saying that the SF were missing from the parade. So the guys with the maroon berets are not SF?

No, "maroon" ( red ) berets is National Guard. Special Forces are green berets, black berets and blue berets.
BTW, those 40 M1151s are not yet Georgian state property and will first be really Georgian equipement after training of all deployable battalions ( Afghanistan ) is completed, just read on the MOD site. I am pretty sure, Georgia will uparmour those vehicles itself.
So, new intel about the Seperate Light Infantry Battalion. This unit counts as elite infantry formation which is specialized on asymmetric warface, special reconnaissance, mountain warfare, marine oeprations, counter terrorism and peacekeeping missions. It's an US Force Recon kind quick reaction force to any situation. Still, it does not count as Special Operations Group and acts completly independent, with own artillery and motorized/mechanized units. Don't ask me what's the logic behind this.
This unit is the one shown in the window breach scene of "5 days in august".

Geo-army.ge pictures of Georgian military 2004/2005

I picked out Special Forces. First one is Gulua group, 250 men strong. Disbanded completly in early 2006 due to lack of efficient role which other units could not fulfill, suppplyment and equipement problems, aswell as incomplete training. This unit was to be trained on Russian ALFA equivalent but project cancelled to unknown reasons. There wasn't much support to Russian like units especially under Saakashvili, although they trained not only togheter with Ukrainian ALFA but were also trained and instructed by US elite Special Forces.
The rest is CT. In 2004-2005 they numbered around 70-100 combat personnel and 40 command, logistics etc. Number did decicively increase untill 2010. 3 operative divisions, 100 combat personnel each. Additional regional squads headquartered and equipped properly to meat any conditions for unexpected situations. Special equipement from Israel, US, Ukraine, Germany, Norwegia, Georgia, Russia, Great Britain and Serbia.
Does anybody recognize the rifles the guys carry in the middle of the picture ? Look a bit like OC-14

Ah, you talked about the 3rd picture, not the 2nd. My mistake. : )
Seems like they're carrying the OC-14 and AS Val
MIA
Does actually not belong to military thread but since CT units of Army and MIA corporate ....
It is to be noted that the guys carrying tavors are only MIA formations.
We mixed them up earlier with an Army unit but that's not true. The Gulua Group was also MIA and the only unit carrying exclusively elder Russian small arms like the AKM and AK-74. It was the only formation which got disbanded. All others do still exist since 2004.
Only army SF at that time was the Commando Battalion, which then turned into the Kojri Battalion which later was renamed and put togheter with all other army SF units which emerged from 2005-2007 under a naval maritime special operations base in Adjara and central special operations base in Vashlijvari, Tbilisi.
So there are these institutions which deploy special operations units for MIA:
KUD
SOD
Financial Police
Criminal Police
Counter Terrorism Center
Every single fed unit uses it's own very cool motorcade of different vehicles. It seems like they are competing with eachother on that issue. KUD has prettiest cars so far .... lol

FAGOT in action. I hate the name the Russians chose for it ...... -.-
I love these clichés. I guess every "former soviet republic" has to wear bear skin hats ( okay especially in case of Georgia it is more than commonly traditional .... ^^ ) and dressed like a Russian kalinka choir. That's what comes, when you get occupied for decades plus a "bit" of ignorance.
I actually have no idea. I guess they are officer corps.
