If Kashgar is such an earthquake threat then why are the old buildings still standing after so many hundreds of years! Its just part of the Han-izing of anywhere China can exert its authority.

If China had Uluru (Ayers Rock), sacred to the local Aboriginals, they would exploit it with a gondola skyride to the summit, topped with a restaurant, with a luge ride to the bottom and cheap souvenir shops everywhere.

And they would dress up Han Chinese for Aboriginal cultural shows.

Indeed, constructing new buildings instead of the old in Beijing centrum and flooding the towns in the vicinity of Three Gorges is a horrible cultural crime, it would be soo much better if thousands chinese would annually drown in Yangtse-floodings as before the erection of three-Gorges-Dam or live in beijing hutongs without proper canalisation.

One of things that pissed me off during my vist to China is the propensity of urban Chinese to actively discriminate thier rural compatriots. The Beijing police would routinely profile them at or near Tienanmen square and rummage through the belongings. While the cops neglected many urbanites with shopping bags and myself with a backpack.

    Like this poor chap.

Do the cops in NY city check well dressed White New Yorkers, or less well-dressed African-Americans and Chicanos?

C'mon, you have the IQ of a chicken.

Those who want Xinjiang to be independent:

Think about it, we can get oil from middle east and central asia passing thru Xinjiang, do you think that we will NEGOTIATE with a bunch of ppl on the issue of OUR LIFE and DEATH? lol... never, to them: comply or otherwise, that's simple and non-negotiable. And that is the real goal of you ppl. To kill us from lack of oil. NO WAY~~~

Ordie can and will run circles around you, he won't because he has too much class, something you could take a lesson in.

I personally observed and photographed the actions of the police in and around Tienanmen Square.

Profiling is a serious issue in the US with legal discriminatory consequences.
But from what I saw in Beijing, profiling is the norm.

Soon after I took this foto, a prostitute walked up to me for a lucky drink.

I guess some offenses can be overlooked.

Despite racial profiling being a legal issue in US, studies still shows that it is the norm....at least for ordinary and unimportant people.

If you have some class, at least admit that.

Anyway back to the original topic ....

You might be interested in this Video clip which involves rural people moving to the cities. Since you always show so much concern about these people.

Perhaps one day Kashgar will be one such city.

    Some key points.

Already almost 50% of people in China now live in 850 Cities

    In 20 years
    170 new mass transit systems
    50 000 new skyscrapers
240 to 350 million new urban residents

By 2030 1 billion will live in cities
By 2025 there will be 220 cities >1million
