The story (as far as I remember) is simple - US Army give our Iraq contingent some old, used HMMWV's with painted markings of they're previous US units. This was a marking of some intelligence unit, if memory serves.
Our soldiers didn't know that this sign is similar to that used by 1st SS division, and they simply let it be on coupola.
Well, the "Key" is a symbol of army intelligence - no intentional reference to Waffen SS.
