any party that proposes merging with the EU like that will not get power... or will lose it the first chance the UK voters (those that bother to turn up that is) get to have their say....
You can't predict how the economy will be and how future governments will spend their money, we could see the economy vastly improve and end up seeing a larger defence budget back in place? If that becomes the case I'm sure the RN will do everything to get the attention of Whitehall and shout for a larger number of Escorts?
But a European Navy is off the cards as far as I can see too many people would kick off about our great tradition going to waste!

No doubt that will happen, it's clear the British People do not want any further integration in the EU. Besides we already form many multinational fleets and task groups to patrol the oceans as part of NATO and the UN. There will never be a European Navy with Britain involved in it.
Hello chaps! Took a while getting the account validated, but here goes.
One advantage that the V-22 would have, is the ability to carry slung loads for outsized items that would not be possible to transport inside the cargo bay.
One thing that is of slight concern to the entire QE project is the similarities with the TSR2 progect.
Hopefully we will not see a project cancellation due to financial reasons. The QE is being project managed far better!
hi
so i followed this discussion for time now and i read some things that aren't really correct
the French carrier cdg had problems on the propulsion yes but it's not the nuclear problem, it's the rest because at the end of the cold war was a massive force reduction and they had to make some economy so they took all the propulsion system of the tourville class fregate and put it in the carrier, for example, it's the gearbox who broke just after the iper of the carrier.
the nuclear reactors are powerful enough, we just need to add that normally the cdg would have weight 30 000 T but took 10 000T during the construction to improve nuclear protection and still the two K-15 reactors have a 30% power reserve in case for the futur
for the european navy, on a french forum (air-defense) we dicusted a lot of it and found out it's never gonna happened because when you were talking (the press) about selling one ship, some in france though let's put in commun our carriers, french jet on the cvf when the cdg is in iper and uk jets on the cdg when the cvf is in maintenance. great but what if the cvf is in drydock and you need airpower (example) to take back the falklands ? you will go with the cdg? will the french president risq losing his sole carrier + a nuclear carrier for a bunch of idlzands? (im caricaturing) it's not well knowing the French
it's the same with irak, the uk went but not france
an aircraft carrier is a piece of diplomacy that you can't share

Regal move on schedule for Clyde’s giant warship

ONE of the most spectacular sights in the history of shipbuilding on the Clyde has been scheduled for next Friday.
After six months of planning, BAE Systems has announced that the 8000 tonne mid-section of the giant aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth will be moved from the shipbuilding hall at Govan and the public will glimpse the scale of the warship for the first time.
The section will then be loaded on to one of the two biggest sea-going barges in the world, never before seen on the Clyde, in preparation for a 600-mile journey around the north coast to Rosyth, where the 65,000 tonne supercarrier will be assembled.
With thanks to the Scottish Herald
I'll be about half a mile up the road from it on Friday (I work in a nearby hospital) and if I can get away at the right time, I'd be glad to get some photos.
here's the full story.

Any one got any idea what time they will start moving LB03 on to the barge ?
The barge that will move LB03 has moved up the Clyde to the Govan yard. (The photo was taken in the Firth of Clyde on Saturday/Sunday I believe).

A specialist lifting crew will move the section 50ft tomorrow.
It will be loaded on to a barge on Sunday, where it will remain until August 16, before beginning a 500-mile journey round the north coast to Rosyth, Fife.
