December was good for us but last couple of days it's been like Narnia, when i was referring to the weather I meant the temperature and the blaring winter sun that's making things difficult to see.

Funny - Same as here in Lower Alabama! Chilly in the evenings and warm and sunny during the day. I'm tempted to go to the beach.

The latest USN LCS - USS Coronado was christened yesterday in Mobile too.

Don't get the whole LCS thing.

Just an overpriced OPV with bells on.

I'm with you on this... I think that the idea was to form mini Littoral SAGs headed up by a DDG1000 Zumwalt class for close in (relatively) operations supported by aircraft launched off of the LHAs and LHDs assigned to Expeditionary Strike Groups, backed up by CBGs further out, combined with the shallow water operational capabilities of the Virginia Class SSNs - BUT - with only 3 DDG 1000s being built. I think that idea has gone over the side... Who knows. I think some small, fast, speed boat Hunter Killer's working with standoff missile attack choppers would do better in the Straits of Hormuz against the Iranian Navy...

    Ah Well.

It IS a nice looking design, but I'm not sure what it's going to be good for except pirate hunting and "showing the flag to the Wogs" in underdeveloped parts of the world. It wouldn't be able to take the impact of a big cruise missile or out run the fast Missile Attack Boats which are the favored sidearm of so many of the Navies we have "philosophical differences" with...

(It WOULD make a good mothership for several of those missile boats though...)

The Daily Mail has picked up on the F35C issue regarding the arrestor hook distance from the main landing wheels. However, in today's approach to journalistic accuracy the headline is out by some £45Bn. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-carriers.html

More unmitigated nonsense from the British press, who's knowledge of defence matters is at an absolute all time low.
Iwill take one headline, stating that Britain has spent £50bn on the F35.

This is not only completely untrue but is wrong by £45bn,as we have in fact spent £5bn. So not much difference there then.

Yes there are problems with the tail hook, and Lockheed-Martin have already stated this will be sorted out, if only people would read for themselves the official releases from the likes of the Pentagon, the US DOD, and LM itself instead of the pathetic offerings of the British media.

It's not a bad design, my understanding is that its mainly designed for coastal defence in US waters originally? They seem like fairly capable ships although time will tell how effective they are. What I don't get is how the hell they developed those ships without a decent cathodic protection system, I mean, this is a fairly basic ship design principle and the cost of damage to the propulsion systems due to this really can't be pretty!

I'm not to concerned about the F-35 arrester gear issue yet, I'd rather wait until the engineers take a look at it and see what solutions they come up with. Only then can the true costs be figured out.
