Perhaps piggybacking on the RN's order of MARS vessels might be an option - I don't know about the political climate down there though IRT to them being built in S. Korean yards... I'm fairly positive that they would be inter-operative with USN ships.

At this time with the current AusGov spending recklessly on pet green projects and a 60 billion dollars broadband network that will be obsolete by the time it is rolled out not going to happen anytime soon, but it is food for thought.
