Re: Black Swan Design
I'm all for it if it is to be a successor to the Hydrographic Survey/MCM vessels/Fisheries Protection.
I doubt they'll end up just doing that though as I'm sure the future government will have them out and about on anti-piracy and drugs missions.
Re: Deck melting issues - Our carriers haven't been completed so therefore aren't at risk
Science and technology will have the solution at the right time (rough edged ceramic tiles ?)

One reason why we won't have a combat ship based on the black swan design is because we have a coalition government hell bent on cutting the navy and swinging the axe like a mad farmer cutting corn. Must admit liked the designs and the idea of a 'black swan', appetite may be there, but policital backing and funding sadly not.
With regards the F35B and the exhaust gases melting the deck, surely someone with common sense and a touch of intelligence at the MOD advised that the deck needs a little protection. Surely !
From twitter

hi guys
Thanks for the link,so good to see QE in the mainstream press, hope it will interest more people in the royal navy, even the forward island looks huge! cant wait until for this assembly cycle to start
concerning the item in the mirror...
Shadow Defence minister Kevan Jones said: “Only this Government could melt aircraft carriers" that comment made me laugh since the B version was there choice, but fair play to them for starting to build these carriers - except the delays.
It's interesting to see the One show taking such an interest in the carriers.
it makes me laugh when i see Labour complaining about an aircraft that they themselves picked.
Anyone here is the navy? Maybe one day when I join when im 24 lets say, we will have more astute class submarines 4 type 26 frigates and 2 aircraft carriers which i could be on(Im 14)
What a great, positive report! Dan Snow was already my hero for his three-part documentary on the history of the Royal Navy. His delivery is fantastic and it all came across as a positive news story (something I think is important to get our sea-blind nation believing that this project is not only important, but also is something we should be proud of!).
The same stuff they tested back for the V-22 and only one of the landing spots had the new coating, hey, I'm all for better, more effective coating that last, but the rest were just a new coat of standard non-skid, which the -B still landed/take-off without the usual "OMG! It's burning the deck!"
