I too am a sit surprised that there isn't a crew following the creation and production on the build of the ship, saying that though, they can easily follow the build of the PoW as well so it's not a huge issue that they've missed the initial construction phases of the QE. The Type 45 documentry really was awesome, so it would be really nice to see one for the carriers. I'm really hoping Airfix make some model kits of it for my collection (and that they make a kit of the Type 23 already!!!!!).

Not sure why they replaced Dave Shutts as captain of the Daring during Sea trials, although he seemed to be more incharge of the actual hand over of the ship from construction to initial trials, he's a really great guy (was my MEO on the HMS Westminster). Wondering who the lucky person to initially command the QE will be! I'll admit I've been half tempted to rejoin the navy just to get to serve on one of these new carriers, lol

Nice find Briani, an interesting read. I'd love to see the bigger ship they spent two years designing.

wow... they like updating the ACA images at strange times and with images from weeks previous (As in tonight's update of Rosyth images from 14th of May)

    GIANT SEAGULL ATTACKS ROSYTH!!!!

Interesting that the PoW bow has been moved to make room. I really cannot see things staying as they are for long up there.

I've had the following reply from John Fyall at the ACA today. Thanks to John for the prompt reply.

"There are no production companies currently commissioned, however we are in talks with a view to developing such an opportunity.

And we are continually recording key stages internally and via the images and video sections of the ACA website"

I must say i'm very supprised that nobodys been following this project from the start.Sounds like there may be somebody on board soon though. Here's hoping.
Thanks a lot, Briani. Here's hoping they do get someone eventually, I'm sure they will, they'd be bonkers not to. I can't see why they'd make documentaries for the Type 45 and Astute class, but not a documentary for the RN's largest warships and one of the most ambitious shipbuilding ventures ever undertaken in this country for years. Thanks again for the response.

The Documentary makers might be waiting for launch/completion ? Also, it is a H-U-G-E story and may be its own series ?

Here's a link to 'Navy Matters'

    http://navy-matters.beedall.com/cvf1-29.htm#top

There's 29 pages of info on this project so may be of value to those who are as yet unaware. Some interesting pics of the early conceptual drawings too.

My guess on the documentary, they will most likely film the POW construction and use that for the QE construction and they can do this while they are filming the sea trials for the QE, this way they save money on the amount of time they have to cover.

Precisely. This is what I'm sure they did for 'How to build a nuclear submarine' - following an apprentice electrician who was working on Boat 2(?) whilst also showing the final stages of Astute's build and her maiden voyage from Barrow.

Either way, there is no question in my mind that a documentary will be produced in the 2016-2018 timeframe.

These pictures certainly put QE's size into perspective especially when you see the workers on the LB02 rollout one.

From the pics SDL posted all the sponsons must be welded in place as the supports for them have been removed, just a matter of time now

Must just be sand blasting with the remaining tents, also do I spy one of the lifts to the far right of the sea gull pic?
