The info in the article seem's a bit off, a completion date of 2015 and the dates don’t match up with what you posted for the barge.
But I posted more for the picture than the info![]()
I notice they refer to it as "This 800-ton hull section", isn't it 8000?

That's a big old lump of Aircraft Carrier... Things they are a'progressing. It's great.
I really hope they record the move as it is loaded onto the barge, that in itself will be an impressive site to behold.
(Nice I can finally post here after following the thread for many months!!!)
Got an old school chum at BAE Scotstoun (just down the river from BAE Govan, where the barge will be loaded) who was just saying to me that there were/are worries about the strength of the barge, he didn't elaborate. Don't think it'll be anything significant though.

Welcome to the ministry of stating the bleeding obvious but I think it goes without saying that we REALLY don't want anything going wrong with the barge move! 500 miles is a long way to go. I should imagine that is why they are moving her in the summer - better chance of fine weather... I would also think that the move would be insured through Lloyds of London whilst the ship is owned by BAE Systems. It'd be very interesting to know about that sort of stuff, if anyone is aware?

This will just be the usual nerves that could be expected from a job of this size, image what BAE will be like when they have to move LB04 which is a lot heavy than LB03![]()
I'm going to an open day at the BAE yard in Scotstoun tomorrow (family and friends of workers), the event programme says there will be an "Aircraft Carrier Exhibition" so I'll try and get as much information and images as possible. There's also a tour of HMS Defender or Dragon I think, should be good.
Anything from under the waterline of any ships there (Assuming you see some in drydock). Since images of ships hulls under the waterlines are usually much harder to come accross
I'm pretty sure when you get the the Aircraft Carrier Exhibit you'll see a few things that make you go 'The guys on the forums would love to see this!'![]()
