I don't understand why in the photos with the 'winter' A-10 the ground crew are wearing white camouflage oversuits. Isn't that a bit dangerous?

I remember my 1st encounter of an A10. It was in the 70s at Ft Campbell Ky, during a training exercise. We were in a wooded area when one flew over so low, that it blew about 1/2 of the leafs off the trees. Didn't hear a thing till it was on top of us, then a huge blast of jet noise. I asked my Sgt, what the hell was that? He said it was an A10 Jet. I will never forget it.
