Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, during an amphibious assault demonstration conducted as part of Bright Star 2009 in Egypt Oct. 12, 2009. The multi-national exercise is designed to improve readiness, interoperability, strengthen the military and professional relationships among U.S., Egyptian and participating forces. Bright Star is conducted by U.S. Central Command and held every two years. Elements of the 22nd MEU are currently are participating in the multi-national exercise while serving as the theatre reserve force for U.S. Central Command.

US Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knights operate in flooded communities during US-RP joint relief operation in devastated area in Talim island, in the town of Binangonan, Rizal province, east of Manila, Philippines on 06 October 2009. A large area of the northern Philippines was without power for a fourth day on 06 October as a powerful typhoon remained stalled over the country, having already killed 17 people, officials said. Many roads were impassable due to floods in the northern provinces, according to the National Disaster Coordinating Council.
