US government report recommends blocking popular websites during pandemic flu outbreak
(NaturalNews) The US government has issued a new report that recommends blocking access to popular websites during a pandemic outbreak in order to preserve internet bandwidth for investors, day traders and securities clearing house operations. The concern is that a pandemic would cause too many people to stay at home and download YouTube videos and ****, hogging all the internet bandwidth and blocking throughput for investment activities, thereby causing a stock market meltdown.

This isn't an April Fool's joke. It's all based on a public report issued by the Government Accounting Office (GAO), available from their website at http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d108.pdf

In this article, I'm going to explain how a pandemic outbreak could theoretically bring down Wall Street. But to get to that, you'll first need to find out what the GAO said in its curious report (see below). Parts of this article are presented as satire, but the underlying facts quoted here are all true and verifiable (links are provided to all sources).

This report in question is entitled, "GAO Report to Congressional Requesters, INFLUENZA PANDEMIC" and includes this subtitle: Key Securities Market Participants Are Making Progress, but Agencies Could Do More to Address Potential Internet Congestion and Encourage Readiness.

    As the report explains:

In a severe pandemic, governments may close schools, shut down public transportation systems, and ban public gatherings such as concerts or sporting events. In such scenarios, many more people than usual may be at home during the day, and Internet use in residential neighborhoods could increase significantly as a result of people seeking news, entertainment, or social contact from home computers. Concerns have been raised that this additional traffic could lead to congestion on the Internet that would significantly affect businesses in local neighborhoods, such as small doctors' offices or business employees attempting to telework by connecting to their employers' enterprise networks.

So everyone gets sick or is afraid to so they stay home... K makes sense. When your home you usually go on the computer which is understandable its how we Inform ourselves, Entertain ourselves and communicate. So when people are at home worried about a pandemic and they can't go on the internet what might happen? Mass panic.....

Here is a better idea instead of restricting users lets create a **** load more bandwidth so they don't get slowed down. Everyday more and more people use the internet thats just putting a band-aid over the real problem.

That was true a while ago. Now however with Fiber optics and more storage capacities and more RAM. It really wouldn't be that hard.

The truth is that it is not economically feasible for internet companies to provide that much bandwidth. Generally at any given time maybe only 25% of a company’s consumer is using the internet. That means that a company only has to provide bandwidth to cover 30% of their paid subscribers. If they had enough bandwidth to cover 100% of their subscribers then 70%-75% would be unused and costing them money to maintain. Therefore why have it. The government is worried that if something major happened that the amount of subscribers using company’s bandwidth jumps to 60% the whole system shuts down. (Example: when Michael Jackson died) Definitely don’t agree with it but I can see both sides of the coin.

The same is true with cell phone towers and gym memberships. If they had enough cell phone towers so every customer could make a call at any given time we would have a million fake palm trees everywhere. While if Bally’s fitness had a gym big enough for all their members to use it at the same time it would be 10 times as big as it is now and never full.

I think ultimatly they want to be able to control the flow of information and news about such pandemics.. for example, they dont want fox news reporting anything about it...

If people stay home, then they are not in the office watching YouTube. So there's really not much net gain in network activity.

Considering the amount these bastards get paid in bonuses each year, they should just pay for building their own dedicated Internetz instead of stealing bandwidth from my BT and...

Oh wait, what I am saying?
