    Change at the Defense Minister:

Gov't appoints Arturo Puricelli as new Defence Minister

Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández announced that former Santa Cruz governor and current head of the Fabricaciones Militares (FM) military works complex, Arturo Antonio Puricelli will be appointed as the new Defence Minister as current minister Nilda Garré will be taking the reins of the newly-created security ministry.

Hope this guy buy's the AF some new jets...

And does the president really need a Blackhawk helicopter? I mean, come on. How many refurb Huey's can you buy with one Blackhawk? Seriously.

And those VIP Learjets...couldn't they be used for border patrol or fisheries duties.

    Tangent over.

Given his FM background, one would think he would be a proponent of revamping Argentina's aviation industry or getting into joint production with others (i.e. Embraer).

Maybe Argentina can jump on the South Korean KFX project, with Indonesia participating and now Turkey expressing interest also. It will probably be similar to an advanced Gripen which would be perfect for Argentina.

I also saw pictures of the new Polish light tank (Anders) which would make a great replacement for the TAMs and VTCP.

The poor Mirages... they'll be a familiar sight for at least a few more years. Even past 2012 it seems. And no one is holding their breath for any replacements either, not since the F-16s were refused with the b.s. excuse of FOD risk.

The FAA is following closely on the New Zealand path towards losing it's fast jet force.

This vehicle is parked outside the US Embassy. It is always there. I heard that it doesn't have the engine.

    Maybe ´till 2016

I really don´t know what they expect these planes to do in case of need: no BVR, no ECM, no air refuelling probe, nothing. Just the good will and effort of the pilots and crew members to keep them at least capable of flying.

2012 is just 11 months ahead; unless they had a super secret purchase / lease already signed and in progress, I see no way to replace them by 2012. If they announce something about it during this year, it will take time to fully incorporate a replacement, even if it belongs to the Mirage family (M-2000?). Keep in mind it´s ellections year, so all money must be used to buy ... ehem ... to convince voters.

No good news ahead I guess.
