The standard rifle is the FN FAL others are in service in limited numbers.
There are between 10000 and 20000 FN FAL in reserve in addition to those in the armories of the different units and this is the reason why we will continue to use this gun for a while more.
Thanks Facundo. I guess you can't go wrong with cheap and reliable weapons that are already in stock, but I would believe these weapons should be coming close to their useful life...how old are the Argentine FALs? I also don't think the soldiers would complain on having a lighter and more manageable assault rifle. I just saw that FNH is submitting the FNAC for the US AIC requirement.
I think Argentina should standardize with one assault rifle, I see Steyrs, M-16's, FALs...time for a new 7.62mm or 6.8/6.5mm weapon. Maybe they can stick with FNH and get the SCAR.
The FAL works fine no need to replace it, all the spare parts are available trought the FM factory since they manufacture under license the rifle, the only branch in wich is standarized the 5.56mm is the Marines, but they still need 7.62mm ammo for the GMPG FN-mag so...
