(*******) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose peace talks with Israel have been stalled for a year, said on Tuesday he would not accept any return to violence.

Addressing a meeting of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, he said: "What is required of us ... a return to violence? I won't accept it." (Reporting by Tom Perry)

An interesting and positive development. However, I am not sure how Abbas statement of non-violence reconciles with the recent declarations from the Fatah conference, where the right of resistance in all forms (e.g. violence) was reiterated.

Also, this is related to the proposal to extend Abbas' term as President of the PA.
