    Default Vets safe from Obamacare?

I called my Congresswoman on 010810 because I wanted to know if those in the VA system will be affected by Obamacare. The young guy there told me that we will not be required to buy health insurance or be penalized (fined) if we do not. He said the administration was afraid to mess with the Vets. A wise decision.

Sounds good to me but with the gummit, you never know.

Anyone else have any information on this issue?

I always thought Obama care was that it would provide free healthcare for those who couldn't afford it, period.
Where did this "requirement to buy" or "penalized for not" enter the picture?

That's where the money to pay for all those indigents will come from.

That was the original idea but apparently it won't even do that. Obama care looks nothing like the kind of national plan you see in Canada or Western Europe: if complaints are to believed, it's a bloated clusterf*ck of overlapping laws, laden with pork, that will put more reulations on the insurance industry and expand care to more people but hardly simplify it. To many fingers (Congress and Senate) in the pot making too many changes.

It is essentially a tax hike and vote buy. Christ Dodd is finally retiring though I wished he had been retired by his retarded constituents many decades ago. Too bad would have been nice to see Peter Schiff call him out in person and destroy him. Smart move on his part (Dodd's) calling it quits at ****ing us over some more.

Yeah, the current health care bills before Congress are awful. Granted insurance companies can no longer deny people care because of pre-existing conditions, which is a good thing. However, I think it's just going to be a windfall for the insurance companies. President Obama really screwed up by leaving it completely to Congress with no guidance. The fact of the matter is, the government is not going to institute any real reform until the crisis ultimately gets worse, which it probably will. But I think before our government attempts any sort of reform in the future, we need to decrease the power of the lobbyists in this country. Personally, I think we should just put a ban on it outright. They can write their Congressman just like the rest of us.
