One reason is that they wanted a collapsible buttstock and a 16" barrel. A representative from KAC(who's no longer with the company) brought one of their 7.62 AR rifles to the trials. The rifle he brought had a fixed buttstock and a 20" barrel. Needless to say, it didn't last long in the trials since it didn't meet the required specs.

Aah, ok. Thanks for the info. Too bad that certain KAC rep didn't bring the newer KAC SR-25-with the 16" barrel and URX II rail.

Because its a sharpshooting rifle rather than sniping so bang bang bang yeah hit him rather than having an adjustable scope would be more sniper like

They could have the wrong pics on their website, but not all the 6x ACOGs are designated "machine gun optic" (MGO). Looks like the machine gun versions have the rail on top and the others don't, just by looking at the pictures.

Yeah, but the 6x ACOG that's mounted on the rifle in the pictures in this thread is in fact an MGO. The one in the pictures in this thread is the exact same optic that we have for our machine guns. It's also called an MGO in all the associated paperwork with them. Regardless of it being designed for machine guns, the ACOG in these pictures is far beefier than is needed for an SDM type rifle. And, unfortunately for the soldiers who will be carrying these rifles, it appears all of Trijicon's 6x ACOGs are virtually the same. Those giant monstrosities.

I heard the army was having some trouble with the M110, it's having trouble with long term reliability.

I'm curious about why the UK is buying a completely new package instead of putting a good optic on the L1A1 / FAL. Are those all gone? Is the AR platform more accurate than the FAL?

Comments please from those with experience - no "Well I'd think..." BS.

    Thanks.

If I may respond, James. My knowledge is only based on my civilian experience with the FAL and L1A1, and what I've read: The FAL platform is a great battle rifle, but it is not known for match grade accuracy. Also, the L1A1 rifles that were in the UK's inventory were quite old when they were replaced. Another MP.net member (I believe someone who had served with Her Majesty's forces) wrote in the other UK sharpshooter thread (the one that was somewhat derailed) that most, if not all of the UK's L1A1 rifles were sold or given to an African country.

Oh ok, I've never shot the FAL so I had no experience on which to make a comparison. Thanks for the info. I was wondering why the UK didn't do something like we did in 2002 or so when the USMC and US Army pulled some M14s out of storage, scoped them, and issued them as DM rifles. If nothing else, 30+ years of use of the FAL vs. less than a decade for the M14 would make a big difference in wear and tear.

You are, by far, the most annoying and hated poster on MP.net. Every thread you reply to is ruined by your mere presence. Senior members beg the Mod staff daily for you to be perma-banned.
You'll notice that 99.9% of the real steel guys do not post in the Airsoft boards, unless they have something pertinent to add to an ongoing conversation. You and your ilk, however, feel it necessary to post mindless drivel on subjects that you only exposure to, has been on this site; whether it be flagellating yourselves relentlessly in the US SOF threads in an effort to further pathetic facsimiles of those warriors, to questioning the judgment of a selection committee made up of some of the finest shooters the British military, in this very thread.
In summary, and in the words of great posters from before my time, it is people like you that are the cancer killing MP.net.
