Is it this?
If so.........It's a CFP 90. Was used by US Forces in the early to mid 90s. They couldn't handle large amounts of weight and were soon dropped from the inventory.
I just got this huge field pack. Im trying to figure out exactly what pack it is and who uses it. On the tag it says large field pack. It also has a small patrol pack that can attach to the back. It has 4 pouches on the outside, a compartment on the bottom for a sleeping bag, and 3 rows of things to hook bunny clips on for gear. Im guessing its around 8000 cubic in. based on other packs ive seen. Its pretty new too. Just wondering who uses this and for what. Im guessing infantry use it for deployment.
Thanks.

Ya, except it has 2 smaller pouches on the sides instead of 1 large on each side. The pack couldnt hold large amounts of weight??? How do you mean?
Load it with rocks, put it on, and see how much your back groans. Weight capacity is not just a matter of how how much can the pack take, but how the weight gets distributed when it's worn.
Is it OD green with a brown fartsack bottom?
If so you have an LCS84 ruck... the intermediate design from LOWE alpine, before the military bastardized it into the FPLIF/CFP90.
much better construction than that of the CFP90, but its 20YO technology, surpassed by packs today.
No, its cammo. Whats a fartsack bottom? The bottom is od where the sleeping bag goes.
Sleeping bag = Fart sack/farter/Gonk bag ect.
Ahh, now that you mention i seem to remember hearing that now. They started calling them that back in WW1 right?
Chuck6d is right...It's the CFP 90

I also have one of these. I dont know the exact history of it, but remember something about it being a "cold weather" replacement for the ALICE pack. It may not be the best pack, but it served me well. I can tell you I never wore my ALICE pack again, after I got hold of one.
Ya, i read that it was a cold weather pack. It seems good for me. I was lookin for something bigger than my eagle pack and you cant even compare it to the aplice pack, with that frame. That will kill your back.I also have one of these. I dont know the exact history of it, but remember something about it being a "cold weather" replacement for the ALICE pack. Uncle Sam, that ruck you posted appears to be of a later manufacture? The one I scooped up back in 2000, had a plastic base, where the shoulder straps connected. This broke, shifting all the packs weight, I ditched after that. Went back to the Large ALICE ruck.
Maybe this one...

I got issued one similiar to this in 92...We couldn't rig it for jumping, so it stayed in my wall locker for 5 years. I love the ALICE large ruck hands down.Originally Posted by haze99
