    Flying Navy

A U.S. Navy Grumman F9F-6 Cougar fighter from fighter squadron VF-73 Jesters. VF-73 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 6 (CVG-6) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVA-41) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 8 January to 4 August 1954.

A U.S. Navy Douglas A3D-2 Skywarrior (BuNo 138948) of heavy attack squadron VAH-9 Hoot Owls launches from the waist catapult of the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CVA-60), during the NATO exercise "Operation Strikeback", in September-October 1957. A McDonnell F3H-2M (137053) from fighter squadron VF-61 Jolly Rogers is positioned on the catapult while a Douglas F4D-1 Skyray of VF-101 Grim Reapers is waiting to be launched.

An F8U-1 Crusader of VF-32 Swordsmen, the Navy's first supersonic fighter squadron, on the catapult.

A left side view of the cockpit of an A-7 Corsair II as the aircraft is prepared for takeoff from the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69).

An S-3A Viking aircraft of Air Anti-submarine Squadron 31 (VS-31) waits on the flight deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) during exercises off the coast of North Carolina. The Aircraft is armed with a Mark 52 mine. An Attack Squadron 34 (VA-34) A-6E Intruder aircraft is at the edge of the flight deck.

Sailors from VAQ 132, Whidbey Island, Washington, stand by as a Navy F-14 Tomcat pilot gets out of his aircraft after arriving at the Roswell Industrial Air Center. The sailors and aircraft are part of the Command Air Group (CAG) operations deployed to support the world's largest joint service, multi-national tactical air operations exercise.

A plane director signals instructions to the pilot of an Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126 (VAW-126) E-2 Hawkeye aircraft during flight operations aboard the aircraft carrier USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67). The ship is participating in NATO Exercise DISPLAY DETERMINATION '86.

I know how you feel shipmate...Those pics bring back memories..

I was on board when this photo was taken..
USS Hanco*k (CVA-19) off San Diego, California, 11 February 1975, shortly before beginning her final deployment to the western Pacific. There are twelve A-4 "Skyhawk" attack planes and one SH-3 helicopter on her flight deck.
I admire the seal of the USS Texas..

One of the biggest design mistakes (along with her sister ship USS SOUTH CAROLINA) that the USN ever put out to sea. 2xMk13 launchers? What a waste!

It had a cool layout, and looked much more threatening than the Virginia Class CGN

A Slava-class cruiser looked even more menacing, but guess who's going to win a street brawl between a Slava and a Virginia-class?? Let's just say that a Virginia vs. a Slava would be like a truck hitting a puppy.
