Also why not head into the farm house with the couple who committed suicide, and get the car keys?

What side was his patch on? From my understanding unit patches worn on the right arm represent the unit they had a combat deployment with. Which could mean he had moved units. He may have crawled in just like Rick.

ya, thats probably the case. but it was on the left which is his unt, right is the combat patch.
