I like that the zombies are somewhere in between slow Romero zombies and ultra fast modern zombies. They can run a little bit and some of them can do things like climb fences but they're not Olympic sprinters.

If you check out the interviews with Darabont he uses Night of the living dead as the shows bible, anything they did in the Romero movie they can do in this and the Romero early zombies were known to get up to a brisk lurch now and then.

Robert Kirkman the original writer set it up so zombies come in two flavours, lurkers who are fairly dumb and immobile but may lurch out and roamers who are more active, wander around and will follow scents or movement and may form crowds as other roamers follow that movement towards a supposed meal.

Its not stated what the difference is in the source comic, my own pet theory is lurkers are the ones who died and were reanimated, roamers are living people who became infected and zombified by bites or whatever. Theres a guy early in the comics who is bitten and escapes but slowly becomes zombified as the infection takes over and asks instead of being killed for them to put him into the city so he can rejoin his wife and children, which they do for him and he's shown to be fairly active when last seen.

I rewatched the 2nd episode last night with the missus and she is of the opinion that she's figured out how to survive the zombie apocalypse as presented in the show.

"I'd wear a bright colored blouse. All the zombies are in earth tones and grays."

I tried to explain about the color palette being on the desaturated side, to reflect the B+W comic, as well as the over-all gloom and how the zombies had been dead and walking around in filth for probably close to a month...she wasn't having any of it.
I anticipate a new blouse being purchased any day now, which is ok...I responded with the need for a new pistola.
Everything works out in the end.

I missed the second episode due to work. I believe they'll have an encore airing at 0100 Friday. Damn. I'll finish work at 2300 and have to be back at work at 0700 Saturday morning. That means I'll go to work with next to no sleep, but it will be worth it.
