A Marine dog handler from Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, Forward Operating Base Duluth, and Smash, the improvised explosive detection dog, prepared themselves for a steak dinner. The steak dinner was provided by Steak Mission Team. The STM is a nonprofit organization that traveled 7,000 miles to say thank you by grilling a delicious steak meal for the service members on the frontlines. “Smash loved it too,” said her dog handler.

COLOGNE, GERMANY - MAY 08: Police stand with dogs at the new Central Mosque (Zentralmoschee) in Ehrenfeld district on May 8, 2012 in Cologne, Germany. Pro NRW, a right-wing political party and movement opposed to Islam and the construction of new mosques in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, has been protesting outside mosques over the past two weeks and in some cases showing caricature drawings related to Islam in a provocative attempt to gain support ahead of state elections scheduled for May 13. Salafis clashed violently with police at a similar event recently in Bonn.

Marine Corporal Megan Leavey waves to the crowd as she and Sergeant Rex, a bomb-sniffing German Shepard she handled in two duty tours in Iraq, are introduced before the New York Yankees played against the Seattle Mariners in their MLB American League baseball game at Yankee Stadium in New York, May 13, 2012.
