Exactly! I had high hopes for GR2 but after seeing the gameplay videos and now hearing that it's tailor-made for consoles, I don't expect that much anymore. What I fear the most is that the great game that required you to think, do recon, patiently set up your sniper(s) and destroy the enemy with good tactics rather than relying on raw firepower has now been transformed into a frag-fest: something like Call of Duty with 15 min "levels", practically unlimited ammo, highly restricted movement and first-aid kits to restore your "health".

If it comes to that, I guess I'm stuck to playing fan-made mods for GR1 and OFP until something as good comes up.

Does anyone know if and when OFP2 is due or was it cancelled as was rumored a while ago? The Full Spectrum Warrior looks interesting, too.
As you've all stated, I certainly hope GR2 retains the tactical aspects that made the original such a great game...but I'm really surprised to hear all the definitively negative opinions, considering that none of us have played the game yet. Yes we've seen a couple videos, but do you really think that showcases all aspects of the game?

Just because the console is the target platform, doesn't mean the game style will be specifically "console-ized" it just means that's the bench-mark technology- I've read statements from John Carmack that xbox hardware stats were the benchmark for doom 3 development (sorry I don't have a link)- does that mean high-end PCs are going to get a dumbed down game? as we know, that's not the case.
Well PC Gamer played a Demo of it and they werent very happy with it, they made it too much like SOCOM, nothing like GR1, so im with Rat on this one

Basically you can expect (for the PC version) a console port. Higher res textures will make it into the PC version but the gameplay is what I'm worried about the most. It will not have the elements that made GR1 such a great game. Team size is reduced, so you dont have the tactical element that GR1 had. It has a stupid "over the shoulder" view which Ubisoft think is the next coming of Christ. It's an action shooter, not a military shooter. I'll reserve further judgement for when the game becomes available, but I dont think it will get the best of reviews from the gaming media or PC fans of the orignal.

Doom 3's graphics wont be fully realised until we all have access to 512Mb graphics cards. The PC version of Doom 3 is anything but dumbed down. The dumbed down version is the Xbox. 2 days until we get to play that baby !!!

The best military shooter coming in the nest few months seems to be Close Combat: First to Fight. It's looking pretty damn good (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/cl...ght/index.html).
