Five billion? It's fabric for God's sake. Give me a fifth of that and I'll come up with something that will be universally regarded as , "best pattern evar".

Nudity. They're just having soldiers roll around in mud and let it dry. Even Predator can't see you then.

I did a science project in High School on camouflage because I was that much of a dork. I put a dummy in a brushy area and took photos of it in various attires and showed photos to various people to see how long they could spot the dummy. They theory is detection delay; the longer the delay, the more effective. I also made sure that the dummy was in random positions to make it harder. My tests showed that plain brown was the most effective. It out performed woodland and other camouflages. I think the IDF is onto something with their plain olive drab; maybe we're over thinking camo patterns.

It was a pretty cool project. It still angers me that my teacher gave me a C on that project.

So let me get this right.

The United States Army spent 5 billion US on a battle dress uniform?

That's like 1/4 of the entire Australian armed forces budget.

X2 Since the 90's US Military procurement has been a cluster fook. How many digital patterns and tiger stripes have they gone through? 47? Bring back the Woodlands BDUs I wore in the Air Force.

It isn't just the uniforms that were paid for; you also have to take into account IBA/IOTV outer covers, pouches, helmet covers, and other equipment that was paid for. And yes, it was a huge waste of money.

The UCP pattern gear is what ran the price up. Now they'll have to spend money to get the same gear in whatever the new pattern is going to be.

Well they say in fashion you're not buying the clothing, you're buying the name brand and apparently Gucci designed these uni's. I cringe at the cost of what Gucci powered armor battlesuits will cost.
