You can hear same things from school teachers( I did, in early 90's), from a history teacher, no less( Natalia Reichtman was her name, she lives in US now, she was mostly nice to kids, but just when she spoke about anything other than her library it was hate-fest, it was first time I ever heard a famous "if we just surrendered durning WW2, we'd be cultured and civilized now", and she said that on a history lesson to teenage kids, thankfully we didn't care of history at all).
