Default Criticism of Islam Is New Front in PC War

"For radical Islam, life is cheap, both for their lives and our lives. The left has become so indoctrinaire that they're more concerned about being politically correct than they are about protecting our nation."
The media is complicit, too, Gainor said, accusing them of "zooming in on anybody who is saying anything critical of Islam."
To illustrate his point, Gainor recalled Derek Fenton, the New Jersey man who lost his job of 11 years at NJ Transit, the state's public transportation corporation, after he burned a Koran outside the site of the planned "Ground Zero Mosque" on Sept. 11. Fenton, 39, was not arrested, but he nevertheless lost his job because NJ Transit said his actions violated their code of ethics.
"The lack of media indignation on that one is astonishing," Gainor said. "Our media allegedly embraces free speech, but it doesn't. It only embraces free speech that doesn't possibly offend Islam. If he had been fired for burning a Bible, he would've been on every evening network news show. It's free speech. It's not something I would do, but it's still free speech."
Gainor also pointed to the case of Pastor Terry Jones, the Gainesville, Fla., minister who threatened to burn the Koran on Sept. 11 but changed his mind after a call from the White House. Jones' threat became global news, inciting protests and threats of reprisal in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
"Again, it shows how PC we've become," Gainor said. "Some idiot can burn a book anywhere in the country, but if you dare burn a Koran, it becomes an international incident."
Just last week, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer said he's not prepared to conclude that the First Amendment condones burning the Koran.... http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/09/24...fessor-pc-war/

Read the whole thing before you comment please. Are we being to PC with Islam compaired to other groups, or not enough? I think the article makes some good points, what say you?

Absolutely. More--cancer to civilization as a whole. Cancer for critical thinking--and that is what really makes us free.

They're telling you not just what to say, but what or how to think in other words. That seems pretty obvious, but the nagging question for me is why? Why Islam? Just when I think I know, I hear so many different reasons for it or flat out denials.

It was Rushdie affair and softness of European intellectual "elites" who succumbed to the pressure, plus, of course, a very artful use by Islamists of liberties inherent in democracies.

Pretense of "intellectualism" and perverted sense of humanism, better yet--"humanism" on LSD, the tradition of Woodstock and of moral relativism.

I like it, but it only stands for now because the typical mp.net intellectuals just haven't commented yet.

I think it's a numbers game. Someone threatens to burn a Q'uran, and it gets a lot of media attention, because Muslims take the bait and start rampaging, which the news can report on, which makes someone burn a Q'uran, which the news can report on, which causes Muslims to rampage some more, which the news can report on...

    rinse/repeat

Islam is the current boogyman, and until another one comes along, get used to it.

Boogyman or liberal cause? Like Darfur or Bosnia maybe? I think it's in line with the whole Global Warming thing, kind of like what smoothie said:

Four times a day they have praying for Islamic students at one of our public schools. At the very same school a child was expelled because he tilted his head down before a test.

Liberal cause? Nah man, boogyman as gris-gris. The 'progressives' may roll over, but not the rest of us clinging to our guns and religion, if sometimes bitterly.
