    Default Patrolling pays off in southern Iraq - 2008

    Australian soldiers from Overwatch Battle Group (West) - 4 have patrolled the perimeter of An Nasiriyah following recent insurgent violence in the city.

    Diggers from Combat Team "Heeler" conducted dismounted and mounted patrols overnight around the city, the largest in Dhi Qar province.

    The patrols are specifically aimed at deterring insurgent rocket attacks and also provide an opportunity to mentor Iraqi Security Forces at checkpoints.

    Overwatch Battle Group (West) 4 and Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces conduct ongoing operations to deter improvised explosive device (roadside bomb) and indirect fire (rocket and mortar) attacks in Dhi Qar province.

    Default Vehicle check point in southern Iraq - 2008

    Australian forces from Overwatch Battle Group (West )-4's Combat Team Waler conducted snap vehicle check points to observe, inspect and screen vehicles on troubled main supply routes within the province. The combat team also received a warm welcome with smiles and laughter when they visited a remote village.

    Default Trial of new combat uniform extended to Aussie troops ‘outside the wire’

    The Australian Government will extend the trial of a new ‘Multicam’ combat uniform following positive feedback from Special Forces soldiers wearing them in Afghanistan.

    The Multicam combat uniform is a different camouflage pattern to the current Australian combat uniform and is also worn by US troops in Afghanistan. 19 November 2010

    Default Helicopter operations training with Navy's new Augusta A109E

    07 April 2008

    The Navy has leased three Agusta Westland A109E helicopters from Raytheon Australia Pty Ltd for a period of four years.

    This leasing initiative provides Navy with a flexible arrangement to continue to grow and train aircrew while providing support to the Fleet and the remainder of the Navy.

    The Navy has been successful in increasing the number of qualified junior aircrew who will now spend more time in the A109E maintaining skills while they wait for further operational flight training opportunities in other Navy helicopters.

    The versatile A109E aircraft will be utilised for a range of activities including, consolidating flying skills, supporting fleet training, search and rescue, medical evacuation and personnel transfers.

    Default MRH90 Helicopters

    The 19th of November 2010 marked the first day of the permanent residency of the MRH-90 helicopter at HMAS ALBATROSS, home of the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm.

    The MRH-90 will be maintained and operated by NUSQN 808 which will be based at HMAS ALBATROSS.
