    Defence investigates cadet *** video

Defence is investigating an incident in which video of two first-year cadets having *** was reportedly broadcast to other students at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) via webcam.
An 18-year-old female cadet told Channel Ten she had consensual *** with another first-year cadet but it was transmitted by Skype to six cadets in another room without her knowledge.
The woman, known only as Kate, says she became aware of the incident when she was contacted by Defence investigators who were alerted by another cadet.
"It was like my whole world came crashing down around me," she said.
"They had to read the statements that the boys had to make and I actually threw up.
"I had to be asked to be excused from the interview because it made me physically ill."
She says still photos were also taken and "then distributed to other people".

To quote from the attached article

"Academy chief Commodore Bruce Kafer says an investigation has begun.
"If the perpetrators or those alleged to have been involved are found guilty of a crime, this could result in termination of their military careers," he said."

I am fairly sure that if it was an OR that was responsible for action like this they would be facing a disciplinary action regardless of the AFP investigation. If this story is correct and I have no reason to think it is not, Kate's partner and his cohorts have shown very clearly they are not mature enough or responsible enough to be Officers in a modern professional military. But then again they are baby officers so will be protected by the Academy as have so many others in past.

    Army pony gets marching orders

OUT OF LINE: Feisty pony Seppy is about to retire from military life. Source: The Sunday Mail (Qld)

Shetland pony Sergeant Septimus "Seppy" Quartus, the official mascot for Townsville's First Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), will be honourably discharged after 17 years serving his country despite being charged with insubordination last year.

"He can be a cantankerous little pony and has been known to take a chunk out of the guys during marches," 1RAR commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Hocking said. "He has kicked out at superiors and dignitaries and absolutely hates 2RAR ... if you wear black clothes he goes ballistic."

The petulant pony, who lives at Lavarack Barracks, was enlisted in 1993. And like his forefathers, Seppy has proved a tough recruit but with larrikin ways. His great-great-grandfather had a penchant for the ladies and often went AWOL........

AUSTRALIANS are renowned for their love of beer, but it was actually enemy combatants at Gallipoli who sipped fermented hops between gunfire, archaeologists have found.

Teams from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey have uncovered new evidence at the landmark World War I site.

The Govt has stood down the commander of ADFA, and new inquiries are going to be opened into the 'culture' of the defence force, while another inquiry will be set up to speed up the integration women into all combat roles.
