Soldier injured in war games: Defence
An Australian soldier has been seriously injured during a war games exercise on the central Queensland coast.
The Defence Department says the accident happened during Exercise Talisman Sabre at Shoalwater Bay, near Rockhampton overnight.
The soldier was taken to a Brisbane hospital after the accident, which involved an armoured personnel carrier vehicle.

They had something on the news today about the Defenceforce getting cranky with the goverment because they want the army to buy more Bushmasters but the army wants german armoured trucks (which are cheaper)
What german trucks are they looking at? Dingo? Boxer?

Well there are about a 1000 Benz G-Wagens floating around now now having been build here , plus the MAN primemovers for the M1 tanks and the replacements for the old Mack trucks.
But yeah they probably will get the Bushmasters.
Another order went in for the bushies- it was in the latest army rag I believe.

ah i see could be worse... so it is an out in the field gig then, how long would it take for me to get to do the FO stuff(i understand experience in the less complicated roles would be essential)? what are the other career paths that follow on from this starting point?

DIGGERS have escaped injury despite a direct hit by a rocket on their accommodation block at Australia's main Afghanistan base.
Defence officials confirmed a number of ADF troops were inside when the rocket hit, and that an Australian ally suffered concussion as a result of the blast.
Insurgents fired three rockets at the 6000-strong multinational Tarin Kowt base in the midnight raid on Tuesday, with one of the rockets finding its target.
Deputy commander in Uruzgan province Colonel David Smith said Australian forces were given time to seek cover by its C-RAM (counter-rocket, artillery and mortar) early-warning system...
The bad guys and the blokes you are supporting are out in the weeds, so yeah, it's a bush job. There was a WO2 RAA FO/JTAC?? who got a gong for his activities with 6RAR in Afghanistan last year. I imagine that will be the progression, you'll see more SNCO's getting the actual FO gig, rather than it just being Officers. That bloke had 15 years experience getting to that point though.
I believe the article is about medium offroad trucks - to replace unimogs mostly.

Bushmaster reportedly performed the worst and Mercedes the best. The MB and MAN purpose built offroad trucks while the Bushmaster Ute is a variant of a personnel carrier.
DMO and Army wants MAN SX 'cos its a little cheaper than the Mercedes - also a lot of countries use the MAN SX (UK, Germany etc). However, DoD, Government and a political lobby are pushing for the Bushmaster.

but it seems it might take as long to get into the army... i got a call from DFR instructing me to call a certain person at a certain time on a certain number... when i did all that the certain person answered and told me they haven't contacted me since my YOU session and that was in march ad he was rather confused as to how i got his number ...
ill just have to wait
It's not a quick process, but I've recently seen some potential Infantrymen go through the process very quickly. A case of right time and right place.
