Australian finger on the Taliban pulse in Afghanistan
    October 12, 2011

IN scenes reminiscent of the hit CSI television shows, Australian soldiers in Afghanistan have the grim job of fingerprinting and photographing dead insurgent fighters in a bid to track fighting age males and uncover enemy fighters.

Unlike the Hollywood crime scene investigators, the Diggers already know how their enemies died, and continually update databases of Taliban fighters...

Diggers to extend their reach in Afghanistan
    October 14, 2011

AUSTRALIAN military training teams in Afghanistan will expand their operations into neighbouring Kandahar Province ahead of a dramatic reduction during 2012.

During his regular report to Parliament on Afghanistan yesterday, Defence Minister Stephen Smith revealed the government had authorised troops from 2RAR from Mentoring Task Force 3 to move into Kandahar Province to train members of the Afghan National Army's 6th Kandak (battalion) of the 4th Brigade.

Special forces have operated in Kandahar as well as the provinces of Helmand, Zabul and Daykundi, but this is the first time army trainers will be based outside Oruzgan...

Was that just before Timor? Because I remember them going round just before then.
I assumed it had to do with getting used to city driving for over there.

In the "old" days over in germanisthan we used to get heaps of tanks going round , Leos and Marders just going up the road.

When they were rolling out the LAVs here a few years back I used to see them roaming the motorways, since I think they were getting things done to them at Trentham.

A little disconcerting seeing one come roaring up behind you at dusk with no lights on though lol.

I just remember going up Herston Rd and having 2 APC's coming the other way downhill flat strap.
When I lived out Dayboroway we had Lavs going through once a year or so.

Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II has presented RMC Duntroon with new colours:

With full pomp and ceremony the Queen has presented new colours to the Royal Military College Duntroon in Canberra.
Despite the warm conditions there was a packed crowd to see Queen Elizabeth present new royal colours to the college for the fourth time in her reign.
The Queen also watched a parade during the event, which was part of Duntroon's centenary celebrations.
The article also contains a video, which I can't get a link for.
