Elements of 1RAR and B Squadron 3/4 Cav engaged in a live fire and movement exercise in Timor Leste as part of the ANZAC Battle Group with the International Stabilisation Force. The exercise was the last one held between the two units prior to B Squadron being fitted out with Bushmasters.

Australian soldiers with the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) in Afghanistan were involved in a series of attacks with Taliban extremists in late August.

No Australian soldiers were wounded in any of these incidents, but the Taliban was known to have suffered casualties.

The soldiers protect the RTF worksite by patrolling throughout the area and maintaining a constant presence.

Combat Team Tusk is the name given to the Force Protection Combat Team from the 1st Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force. The team is a Combined Arms Organisation and has soldiers and Officers drawn from Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and other support Corps.

During the weeks prior to Anzac Day, the Combat Team deployed to the Kakarak region of Uruzgan, to support Afghan National Army elements and their Australian mentors as they moved into the troubled region to further expand the significant security gains made during the Task Forces’ deployment.

The soldiers from Combat Team Tusk conducted aggressive patrols, looking for the insurgents, their Improvised Explosive Devices and weapons caches. Their aim was to disrupt the enemy and remove their capability to threaten both Coalition forces and the local national Afghan people. The Operation was a resounding success, culminating in a decisive battle, which saw the Australians and their allies inflict serious casualties on the insurgents and destroy significant quantities of their weapons and explosives.

Army’s 4th Battalion (Commando), The Royal Australian Regiment (4 RAR [Cdo]), has been officially renamed as the 2nd Commando Regiment (2 Cdo Regt) at a ceremony at Tobruk Lines, Holsworthy, today.

The ceremony, reviewed by Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie, saw the march-off of the 4 RAR colours and the unfurling of the new 2 Cdo Regt flag. 19th JUne 2009

A No 6 Squadron F-111 taxis out to runway at RAAF Tindal, for the final sortie of Exercise Talisman Saber 09. The mission may well be the final time the F-111 takes off from RAAF Tindal with bombs onboard, as the type is being retired from service in 2010.
