I have a question; does this ship have the growth potential to accommodate 64 VLS cells in the future instead of 32? This ship will serve with JMSDF for several decades, and Japan's main enemy is going to become very numerically superior eventually within those decades.
64 VLS cells sounds like a lot for a ship with maximum displacement of 6800 tons; the Spanish F100 is a very compact design at 6250 tons and 48 VLS cells.
32 is not a lot however it may be considered adequate depending on the role -- keep in mind that the ESSM can be quadpacked in the mk41 VLS. If they use e.g. 8 for ASROC they can still fit 24X4= 96 ESSM in the remaning cells.
KDX-II with 5500 ton maximum displacement right now has provisions for a combination of 64 Mk.41 cells and Aegis combat system or a combination of 32 Mk.41 cells (32 SM-2IIIB or 128 ESSM; we can put Hyunmoo-III or K-ASROC depending on mission type) + 128 KM-SAM cells in the future. We take our most formidable enemy's growing numerical superiority very seriously. 19DD will be even better suited for upgrades of such scale.

Range? Hyunmoo-III variants have ranges of 500km, 1000km, and 1500km. K-ASROC has a range of 20+km for the rocket and 10+km for the torpedo. The first batch of KM-SAM has 40km effective range. Subsequent batches will have 120km effective range, but we still have MTCR issues to process (and the AESA radar for KM-SAM is not yet completely mature).
Have you got a top-down view of the ship?
19DD is said to cost $900 million per ship, according to globalsecurity.org. Well that's still much cheaper than the Atago class.

Norway got the Nansen class which is derived from the Spanish F100 -- I have often thought we should have considered going South Korea instead, I have a strong feeling we would have gotten a much more potent ship for the same price we paid the Spanish... Nansen got only one 8-cells MK.41...! I do not know how much it can be expanded, seems to be classified. Some say it can fit another 3X8, others say it can fit just one more 8-cell.
Nansen is much smaller than all these other ships mentioned of course, with a maximum displacement of 5,290 tons. I think we paid some 21 billion NOK (3.6 billion USD...!) for 5 ships however I think that also includes 6 NH-90 helicopters. One peculiar thing about the Nansen is that they have some (limited) ice breaker capabilities.
Again, South Korea is where we should have built our ships. Or do you have the same limitation on export of military equipment like Japan?
