Ive seen Spanish SF in pictures with Compound Bows, so this isnt far fetched. Crossbows were used by US SF in Vietnam to take down NVA/Vietcong guards on at least one occasion.
    no muzzle flash

waiting for Aussie SASR to bring in the Multicam Boomerang or a Woomera with MOLLE on the back incase you want to attach a pouch or 7...

I don't know about you but I would probably scream like a bitch if someone shot me with a crossbow. Not very silent.

I've seen a picture a few years ago, with a Brazilian soldier carrying a crossbow too.
So we can add one more nation that uses or used crossbows, at least tested them.

I laughed, and all these college girls looked at me like I was an idiot.

Why would you use a crossbow? To counter and enemy larpers of course.

But really the only application I can think of is lack of muzzle flash and mostly quiet use.

The crossbow is an excellent weapon. Silent, easy to manufacture, bolts can be made relatively cheaply, and the most important thing is that you can attach very large explosives to the front, and get some excellent results.

we had a lunatic officer brought a suppoused special forces crossbow with armour piercing bolts
made a nice hole in a snatch result way more extras as usual.
without some wild geese style poison attached all the crossbow is going to do is make a sentry make a lot of noise.
