No, she wasn't meant to be PSI, different chick. Judge Hershey is one of worst done characters in movie, fact that she wasn't telepath was with color of her hair pretty much only things that were correct in her character in movie. Probably producers and script writers chose her as female side kick for simple reason, they had actress with right looks. But apparently they forgot to read the stories involving Judge Hershey. Judge Hershey isn't the emotional character in comic or incompetent or one that slows Judge Dredd down. She pretty much opposite of that, second most brutal Judge after Dredd. Sadly that applies to almost all characters, only connection to comics is name and character in movie is exact opposite to what that character is in the comics. I dunno why in gods name writers didn't create new characters if character is going to be exact opposite of original. Pretty much only characters in movie that somewhat resemble their comic counterparts are Fargo, Rico and Angel gang.

Background story of comic pretty much raped when it comes to details and time line.

If you forget pretty much all characters and fact that almost all details of setting are wrong has in movie, rest of stuff is just fine... Art direction, visual effects and story part of film is in essence pretty good, I have no problem with fact that movie combined elements from couple major story lines. Effects were good when compared to standards of day it was made.

I hope that upcoming movie will stuff very differently when it comes to details. Judge Dredd isn't the classic hero in most senses, in very large part of comics he more of villain, as he doesn't have ethics, he has the law. He enforces it in most literal and strictest sense. He isn't actual main character of comic, that is the city and it's inhabitants.

Main problem with the 90s movie - It was made in the 90s! People had the right desire to make comic book movies back then, they just didnt know how to do it properlly. Ever since Batman Begins and Sin City, Hollywood has now kind of proven itself that it is willing to stay faithful to the comics that they are adapting.

Stallone's Judge Dredd killed my love of the comic. I haven't read 2000AD since the midget's abomination was released.

Currently 2000AD isn't as good at it was back in late 70's to mid/late 80's, but average quality is better than in 90's.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Virtually the same plot, at least at that point in the movie.

Stallone's Dredd was actually more fitting, Urban's Helmet looks too big for his head. Blowing up someones car for a parking violation in the original film was also fun. I like some aspects of MC1 design but meh. Give me that Eagle on the shoulder please.

An even somewhat true to source film would be rated something like X.

This wasn't even on my radar until I saw the trailer this afternoon. Looks like a winner.
