They have chosen the actors to play the parts of Stannis, Davos Seaworth, Maester Cressen and Melisandre for series two... http://towerofthehand.com/

If you've been reading the books with an eye on human civilization, the world of GoT/SoFI shouldn't surprise you at all. Every major culture in the books is clearly inspired by a real world culture.

Yep i know that and this is fair (frankly i don't remind a fantasy book where you have an original civilisation described; maybe the Tsurani in Krondor's chronicles even if pretty well inspired by Chinese/Japanese civilisation but also without any metal which was pretty much new)

The point is (but this is only me) that i don't know why but i imagined the world differently.
Having the shape of old Earth world is kinda disapointing once you have imagined something else

I'd never seen Sothoryos before this picture, nor do I recall reading any mention of it, if that makes you feel better.

I'm not happy with the actor they chose for Stannis. He doesn't look anything like Robert or Renley. If you ask me, he should look something like a smaller version of the mountain that rides... That's how he was described in the books actually.

Well, I trust they don't botch this one up so easily. Let's see what make-up can make out of it...

Stannis was described as a big, bald, ugly man. The dude they cast is small, haired, and handsome.

Finding ugly actors does pose a bit of a problem.

Also, Ben Kinglsey is how I imagined Stannis Barantheon.

I never got a sense Stannis was supposed to be ugly, just cold and severe. I'm sure they can figure out a way to simulate baldness - and size is something that's somewhat flexible on the screen (I mean, Tom Cruise looks regular-sized in most of his work, Sylvester Stallone is 5'9". etc). Hopefully Dillane will do a good job, I'm pretty happy with how the first season turned out.

Just hope Martin will live to finish the series, he does not look good lately. Took me two days to get through Dance with Dragons, I always forget how much I enjoy his work.

    SPOILER:

Started reading Dance of Dragons today. Was so pumped when Slynt got his good old head chopped off. I always love when a villain finally gets killed, as it rarely ever happens. I am honestly not even shocked when a hero dies. Literally, every second I read I am expecting Jon Snow, Bran, or any other Male main character to be killed off, because it appears really only the female leads are safe. Hopefully, Georgie doesn't go the way of most creepy fantasy writers and make it a sexy female driven story by killing off every strong male lead.
