Default Indian Army Looking New Assualt Rifle

As part of the Indian Army's phased future infantry soldier as a system (F-INSAS) programme to create a fully integrated infantry soldier, Army HQ has floated requirements

The Army has put down its preference for a modular assault rifle with changeable multiple caliber barrels to support 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm, 7.62x51mm, 6.8x43mm and 6.5 Grendel rounds. The rifle needs to have an integrated sighting system that includes a luminous tipped flip-up iron sight, telescopic sight and a holographic reflex sight with a visible laser illuminator. It clearly wants an advanced under-barrel grenade launcher with a standalone firing mode governed by a multipurpose fire control system. [PDF] for a new assault rifle that will, potentially, be license-built in large numbers. A questionaire provided with RFI points to what the Army is looking for in its new ambidextrous assault rifle:

Best option in my opinion would be buy FN SCAR, because I know DRDO want to develop a new gun they tried with INSAS Excalibur but wasn't selected by the army neither Amog.. So instead of trial and error better buy off the shelve and license manufactured it.......

FN's SCAR comes to my mind. And HK's 416/417 family, perhaps the G36 as well?

I don't think buying the FN SCAR would be an economically viable solution.

Beretta ARX 160, SCAR, HK G36, HK 416/417, BREN, Tavor, FN2000, MSBS Radon... virtually any modern weapon. They are colecting data for tender. This means they will announce it next year if ever....

Theres 5 different calibres there - all of them different and all jostling to be a competent assault rifle round.
wouldn't it be easier for them just to standardise on one round ? That gets rid of the interchangeable barrels bit and makes things a bit cheaper. Given that India is capable of developing and producing its own small arms ammunition in quantity, they could easily standardise on one of those or even develop a home grown round - 7x45 anyone ?
I wonder if some Indian observers are thinking that trying to hit too many targets is going to lead to either prolonged development and/or expense.
