Nicolas Cage's rare Superman comic book recovered

Authorities in Los Angeles were searching Monday for the thief who stole an original copy of the first Superman comic book from actor Nicolas Cage more than a decade ago. Action Comics No. 1 — a 1938 comic book now worth as much as $1.5 million — was taken from Cage's West Los Angeles home in 2000 and was discovered last month in a San Fernando Valley storage locker.

I had posted a thread back in the summer, about a family in foreclosure finding an Action Comic #1 in the basement. Just as an overdue update that copy sold for $250,000 and was rated as VG (Very Good, anywhere from a 3.0 to 5.0 on the CGC grade)

Glad Mr. Cage will get his book back. Hope it is in the same condition but, seems unlikely. Probably got fried in that storage locker. Unless it was air conditioned. Who knows who read it?

90% sure it is in a CGC case, which can take a beating. Don't know about it's temp tolerance though.

Asked Kurt Busiek (Astro City and other awesome ****) about Stumptown (recent Greg Rucka book) described as such.

Like THE ROCKFORD FILES meets Ross MacDonald, starring a young woman PI. Well worth it.

If it hasnt been mentioned before pick up DMZ by DC comics/Vertigo. Its the story about the second american civil war, the setting is Manhattan Island, NY. good art and writing both by life long New Yorkers..its a nice pulp tale of a reporter trying to survive the complex city in a complex time!

    Some of my GN/TPB's

No real order, I have all the volumes of most of them but have a lot in piles on my floor right now for one reason or another. So some on the shelves are out of order. Need to start bagging a lot of these.

Walking Dead to the left of Sin City collection in the first. Probably 4-5 shelves worth [might be more] of material right now.

A landmark publishing event by one of Japan's most famous cartoonists. Shigeru Mizuki is the preeminent figure of Gekiga manga and one of the most famous working cartoonists in Japan today. Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths is his first book to be translated into English and is a semi-autobiographical account of the desperate final weeks of a Japanese infantry unit at the end of World War II. The soldiers are told that they must go into battle and die for the honor of their country, with certain execution facing them if they return alive. Mizuki was a soldier himself, and he uses his experiences to convey the devastating consequences and moral depravity of the war.

Spare Room Holds Million-Dollar Comic Book Collection

A retired Minneapolis bus driver who died in a fire last year had a passion for comic books. The fire that took his life started in the kitchen, but a back bedroom filled with more than 20,000 comics was spared. It was just recently that the surviving family members realized the collection was worth about $1 million.

You should make a trip for the ones here, the big ones (Big Apple & NYCC) aren't until September and October. Sometimes they have smaller ones in the summer and some of them aren't too bad. if I see another original Empire Strikes Back poster, I might not be able to hold myself back.

Wizard has a 'spring edition' of the one in September next month: http://www.wizardworld.com/home-newyork.html

Never been to this one: http://www.nycbm.com

I read in trades, single issues make me too jumpy for the next one. So I am versed up to the end of Vol 13. Next one comes out in June.

They are my faux bookshelves of sorts, I don't know if a girl would be too impressed with the Astro City collection but I can hope. Some of the trades have that older smell, it's the ink/paper mix they use I think and just can't replace that at times.

Sometimes it's better to get the larger format (Hardcovers) Absolute Planetary & Captain Britain are some of the bigger ones I have. Enjoying the series enough for the investment is also a factor in that.

I´ve got the Compendium and Books 5 and 6. I´m not really fond of the single issues, so I´m currently waiting for Book 7 to be released, whenever that is.
