Alert: Brent Anderson’s artwork has been stolen



We heard of a couple of car break-ins at Comic-Con, and one of the worst was artist Brent Anderson’s :

Brent Anderson had a lot of art stolen in San Diego. His car was broken into at the San Diego Zoo and the following original art was stolen: 50 pages from Astro City Vols. 1 & 2 & Local Heroes; AC: Dark Age Books 1 (#s 1-4), 2 (#s 1-4) & 3 (#s 1-4) (50 pages). Green Lantern and Rising Stars artwork was stolen as well. Please share this to as many venues as possible, to get the thief caught and the art returned.

Update on stolen Brent Anderson art



Artist Brent Anderson has sent out an updated list of the art that was stolen from his car just after the San Diego Comic-Con. If you see any of this for sale, please contact him. Images of some of the stolen art can be seen on his art page.

That first GL art on his page is really nice, as is the power battery.

I'd recommend Book of Magic first, IMO it is good to ease into Gaiman. Sandman is heavy stuff but definitely recommended.

The World Fantasy Award will always be a standout for him I imagine. Y

At the 1991 awards, comic book The Sandman issue #19 "A Midsummer's Night Dream", by Neil Gaiman, won the Award for Best Short Fiction. The widely-circulated story that the rules were subsequently changed to prevent another comic book from winning is not entirely true. The official website states: "Comics are eligible in the Special Award Professional category. We never made a change in the rules." Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, however, won the Award under the Short Fiction and not the Special Award Professional category.

The SDCC stuff was nice this year, the Venture tin with rusty and doc is on pre-order from the page that io9 linked (Also a free twilight zone mousepad thrown in)

The Wayne Casino coins connected to flashpoint seem to be pretty popular on Ebay.

Picked up the Spiderman Syroco statue as well, limited 1000. The one I have is 759 or something.

Poor Brent. I used to like some of his early work from the 70s. Ka-Zar, I think it was. Original run. Astro City is great stuff too. He's a good storyteller.

Some may or may not have been upset that they killed off PP, to introduce someone that is more PC. I find it to be funny actually, since the writing itself hasn't been very good in the last few years and if it continues just ends up being the same anyway.

I stoped reading after they've killed off Wolverine during the Ultimatum; now that they've killed Peter Parker, I'll never read those comics again.

The Marvel Ultimate comics are in a separate universe; there is still the mainstream one in which most of the important arcs occur in.

Don't worry; that's only the Ultimates Universe instead of the 616 (i.e regular) universe. The Ultimates Universe has been crap ever since they started out with Mark Millar and Jeff Loeb as the main writers. We're lucky that they didn't decide that the new Spirder Man is in a incestuous relationship with his sister.

Now in the 616 Universe Spiderman is still Peter Parker...its just that all of Manhattan is getting infected with his powers for some reason.

WildStorm: The Last Lunch



It’s a week of changes for DC. The last remnants of those who are moving West have packed up shop, and the WildStorm offices in La Jolla are closing for good, ending nearly 20 years of history, innovation and comics.

To mark the event, an alumni lunch was held. Apparently the turnout was insane. The final group shot awaits, but above is a sampling, with Hank Kanalz, John Nee, and Carla and Jim Lee

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in the Dark Knight Rises

Director Christopher Nolan likes to play things close to the vest. A few months ago an “insider” was quoted as saying:

Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.

Still, the Ultimate universe is the one I used to read. Less convoluted continuity. Now I'm enjoying PunisherMAX and Red Star, both pretty good.

I understand most people here probably don't read manga but I'd like to recommend one that I think might be interesting even to people who don't like them usually.

Eden: It's an Endless World!

It's got a real epic story and leaves out most of the usual manga stereotypes (similar to Berserk in that aspect).
I'm impressed by how the individual stories of the main protagonists evolve and tie in with the background story.
