Carlos Castaño is dead.September 1, 2006 his bones were found in a shallow grave.He was killed by his own brother they think he was in talks for the disarmament of AUC units.

Los Pepe's are still unknown who was behind it.Some think US Delta Force others think Colombian Officers and Military personel taking the law into there own hands along with Castano.

Other sources say that it was a SEAL team with a Delta sniper.

He was a good fighter.He led many deep incursions into FARC units and they where affraid of any of his units under his direct command.He never showed any mercy.

Even with this firepower and US support. Victory is a long way. Mainly because of the corruption.

Corruption plagues every country in the world.I do not think it is only done in Colombia.But we are showing good improvement and FARC is more of a narco cartel then a actual threat to any one.Like the ETA in Spain and the Russians in the Chechen war.It is only in certain areas that there will be fighting.It is not all over the country which is some thing people make the mistake of thinking.

Ghelp, excellent compilation here. When I was still working in Colombia, I had the priviledge of getting to view captured FARC videos. They were self-made videos of them preparing and executing attacks on various outposts. It was truly disturbing.
