Wrong, defected soldiers wear uniforms in fight, as seen in video from Brega. Pro-Gaddafi militia, mercenaries and loayalist troops are marked with green scarf or something to differ themself from rebel groups.

Lybia is said to have 8 batalions. gadaffi should have bought some S 300 when he had the chance as the older S 200 variant is somewhat vulnerable to current jamming technology
S200 needs very good maintence level and A LOT OF SPARE PARTS and testing, I doubt that it still operational there.

You can always scrap them and use their engines for some small ballistic missiles

I had a look at Wikipedia for info on the subject of Libyan air capacity, and they seem to have a significant amount of aircraft, more than I thought. Even if you deduct a number of them for switching sides, lack of spares or maintenance, or whatever, Gaddafi might still be able to get dangerous amounts of jets in the air, plus Mi-24's and Aero Albatros and Soko G-2 Galeb light attack/trainer aircraft. Here's the link:

Larger problem would be the number of SCUD missiles they have.
Apparently Libya launched SCUDs at US installations on Italian island in 1986.

Libya responded to U.S. airstrikes in 1986 by firing several Scud missiles at a U.S. Coast Guard navigation station on the nearby Italian island of Lampedusa.

Probably the best place for this article:

Libya Sanctions Are $4B Blow to Russia Exports

    AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
    Published: 3 Mar 2011 11:22

MOSCOW - Russia is to lose $4 billion in arms exports to Libya due to the imposition of U.N. sanctions against Moammar Gadhafi's regime, one of its chief weapons clients in the Middle East, an official said March 3.

State arms exporter "Rosoboronexport's lost income from the situation in Libya amounted to $4 billion," the head of state industrial holding Russian Technologies Sergei Chemezov was quoted as saying by news agencies Interfax and RIA Novosti.

Russia was slow to echo Western condemnation of Gadhafi amid his bloody crackdown on an uprising, but on Feb. 26 it joined other U.N. Security Council members in ordering an arms embargo against Libya and other sanctions.

The Arab world is the main export market for Russian arms after traditional partners China and India.

A Su-22 armed with 4 tons of bombs and (most useful I guess) S-8 rocket pods can do quite some damage on a strafing run on rebel positions.

They achieved no hit on a whole island with a missile which's CEP is about half the size of the island. Says alot in terms of training of the TEL crews

AJ reports that 6 to 7 000 rebels assaulted loyalist troops in Ras Lanuf oil rafinery, last checkpoint before Sirte and are battling now over the control of the refinery and that there are mass defections in Ras Lanuf reported. In west Gaddafi forces assaulted Az Zawiyah and Al Harsha and now are battling over the control of the coastal towns.

And news agencies reports protests in Tajura district of Tripoli.
