Have you see the outfit in Benghazi? They look like your average scum in the middle of hapless people.

Doubt it, they´d have to retake Ben Jawid first and there were no reports from journalists in Ras Lanuf about such thing.

    1. 2158: Al-Jazeera has just reported that Col Gaddafi is to hold a people's congress to let him stand down with guarantees. There have been various unverified rumours to this effect on Twitter today.

I think concentration of media in east has somewhat twisted the picture, more significant things might develop somewhere entirely else. If the country is loaded with guns and clear majority is anti-Gaddafi then a lot pieces are on the move.

BBC's John Simpson must have quite good life insurance or aiming for a new award, he is continuously at the frontline, today he even drove into pro-Gaddafi road block and made a rapid U-turn while bullets were flying. If I saw correctly, those pro-Gaddafi dudes were also using pickups, not tanks.

There are also several freelancer journalist, I think it was BBC, or Rtrs which were given report from the direct frontline during the battle of Ras Lanuf when they were in Brega from some independent journalist which decided to stick up with rebels and see what´s going on first handed. I wonder whose that.

    1. 2245: More details now on the offer Al-Jazeera says Col Gaddafi has offered to the rebels. The channel's correspondent in Benghazi was told by the rebels that the leader had asked for safe passage for his family and immunity from prosecution. They would hold a People's Congress to discuss the details, it reports.

    2. 2248: The rebels rejected the deal as it would mean an "honourable" exit for Col Gaddafi, ******* quotes the channel as saying.

Seems strange considering the momentum seems to be turning against the rebels. Maybe outside pressure is starting to tell.

He retook Sabratha and Gharyan on 1 March but as for his advance that´s it. Yes, Bin Jaweed fallen to Gaddafi but just 3 days ago his forces controlled all territory up to Marsa al Brega and he is still unable to retake Ras Lanuf which is key oil center on the coast together with Brega. And Khamsi brigade is struggling for days to retake surrounded Az Zawiya. And nor Brega, nor Ras Lanuf are anywhere near Tripoli, Zawiya is just 50km from Tripoli.

Why? they have Anti Tank, Anti Aircraft capability, have FAL's and AKM's, Medium and Heavy Machineguns (PK, Dshka), Mortars, Rockets for indirect fires

They dont look like they need more weapons just coordination

The Military industrial complex still exists - Just because it fell from favour during IRAQ, there is money in guns!
