LONDON — London will send a charter flight to Libya and deploy a Royal Navy frigate to help evacuate citizens caught up in unrest in the north African country, Foreign Secretary William Hague said Tuesday.

That might have been a sigh of frustration. Translators hate Gaddafi because he speaks with an odd dialect.

So Gaddafi now not only looks like a half-crazed, chubby version of Alan Rickman but actually has become the personified Sheriff of Nuttingham. Im impressed.

Seems the RNLAF KDC-10 was scheduled to leave Eindhoven AFB around two this afternoon, which means it should already be in Tripoli(flight time is 3H 25M from Schiphol, Eindhoven is a bit more to the South). No word on any fighter escort though. If it is really a KDC-10, it could refuel it's own escort on the way, but it could simply be because a DC-10 was not available.
EDIT: Interwebs sez the RNLAF plane landed at Tripoli shortly after six. Not everyone slated to board got to the airport, so Foreign Affairs Minister Rosenthal is looking into getting another plane in there tomorrow. No word on other foreign nationals being taken in, but if the plane is not filled to capacity(which it probably won't, news sources were talking about approx. 170 Dutch citizens to be evacced on the first go) it stands to reason other nationals would be allowed as well.

The Luftwaffe has flown out germans as well, in two Transalls and a Lufthansa airbus.
1920: More detail from Angela Merkel giving her reaction to Col Gaddafi's speech: "The news we've had from Libya yesterday and today is worrying and the speech by Colonel Gaddafi this afternoon was very, very frightening, especially because he virtually declared war on his own people. If the use of violence does not cease then Germany will exhaust every possibility to exert pressure and influence on Libya."
