And on the 'sources' side of things, the BBC's Correspondent in Cairo has just reported that he has been advised by a 'very reliable source' that Gaddafi has ordered his airforce to bomb military facilities, in those areas he has lost control off, to stop the weapons in them being distributed to the people.

They are also reporting that he (Gaddafi) has left Tripoli airport in 3 transport planes, destination unknown. As yet to be confirmed, but it is coming from normally reliable sources.

There is alot of equipment in storage that he just doesn't have the troops to man, and if there is ammo stored along side the for example 1000 T-55's he has in storage then the 'the people', should they have enough ex-army or serving military among them to organise things, will be rolling straight over him.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libyan_Army No mention in that army unit list of any specific Presidential Guard formations.

It will not come to that. The security forces/police/army are melting away and defecting in mass in the opposite side.
Those few African militia and the private paramilitary units will not be stupid enough to face advancing protesters and army units. The African militia that will "stick out from the mass like flies in the milk" better run away fast because they will be lynched. There will be no mercy for them, there is never mercy for mercenaries.
I mean both their neighboring countries found it easier to get rid of their dictators than go the path of civil war.
FFS who is going to fight for this nutcase, his days are numbered.

Oh I completely agree, I'm just thinking it will be over that much quicker (and with less overall bloodshed), if the opposition manages to get its hands on large numbers of armoured vehicles and puts them into use. Thats assuming he doesn't just run for a border. Of course if nobody will take him then it might come down to a last stand surrounded by those who have nothing to lose because the Libyan people will be putting them up against the same wall. (Would it be better if someone offered him a place of exile???)

His days are definitely numbered, its just a matter of how much blood and time it will take. That part is up to the fighter pilots ordered to bomb their own army's bases. If they join the revolution, it will be a very short civil war.

Actually it is better if the army units that defected are in charge of arm depots and the only one using them.
Mob and unguarded army depots means only one thing------>anarchy
I know that because the same happened in Albania(where I come from) in 1997, not a good idea for revolting population to loot army depots.

Pilots are the last that will bomb the Army. Airforce never dares to go against the Army for many reasons because they know what awaits. Also the human factor will stop them from dropping huge bombs on their own people.
If they do not defect they will just drop their bombs in the desert or sea and return to base to notify their superiors "mission accomplished". Also done in Albania 1997.
