A Libyan rebel arrives to the frontline of the outskirts of the city of Ajdabiya, south of Benghazi, eastern Libya, Monday, March 21, 2011. The international military intervention in Libya is likely to last "a while," a top French official said Monday, echoing Moammar Gadhafi's warning of a long war ahead as rebels, energized by the strikes on their opponents, said they were fighting to reclaim a city under siege from the Libyan leader's forces.

Coalition forces bombarded Libya for a third straight night, targeting the air defenses and forces of Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi, stopping his advances and handing some momentum back to the rebels, who were on the verge of defeat just last week.

Negative; the soft edges are indicative of melt-through from the fire, not the tell-tale jagged edges of explosive fragments penetrating outwards.
It's been confirmed to have been mechanical issues that brought her down ...

There's no way for the pilots of telling what caused "mechanical issues".
There's no system that tells the pilot "oh we've just lost hydraulics due to a 14,5mm hit" just one telling him that they lost hydraulics/electrics/whatever
You can spot a SAM and may be heavy caliber AA, but there's no way of really keeping track of every non radar guided gun shooting at you.
Why always so picky about this? Getting shot down is some sort of disgrace in the USAF?

There's no way of finding out what really happened other than examining the wreck but I guess there won't be much left of it soon

Anyway no matter our opinions, I hope no one wishes harm to these airmen. It's really a case of obeying to orders.

I'd imagine a 14,5mm round says "Hi folks!" with making some noise? Have there been any reports by the Gaddafi-media claiming they've shot the aircraft down? Personally, I'd rather believe the reports of the crew than some theories floating around the internet.

The large holes in the wing are from fuel burning, but there are also smaller holes, which are not caused with fuel burning.

For the 326th time, most of them have been in the army as conscripts. They know mostly what todo. You can also clearly see who's had a weapon in his hands before, and or who has had training and or service years. And I see quite some training in most photos n videos. Not many have their finger on the trigger to start with.

Mostly the people in the field are the ex soldiers and most of the protesters like in a demonstration are the noobs.

    OK more photos hopefully...

O, how I hate such pictures, especially the part on the left, where they managed to actually get them all wrong. It makes people that aren't into military stuff go, oow wow Rafale are shooting exocets at Daffy... sigh... FFS!

And how do you know? You're one of the crowd around the wreck and have examined the crash site? Or just guessing?

Do you mean the cleaning rod? It's removed. The gas pipe in an AK is above the barrel.
