That extra armor may actually be effective against PG-7V and PG-7VL rounds fired by the RPG-7. It would basically function just like slat-armor, in that it would detonate the RPG round too far away from the main armor for the HEAT warhead to be effective. Since the copper stream generated by a HEAT round exponentially looses its punch the further it has to travel, even a foot of extra space can mean the difference between a close-call and the total loss of the vehicle/crew. However, it's likely ineffective against more modern tandem warhead rounds.

Rebel M46s fire on loyalist positions in Brega at Dusk.
LOL that's the first time I've seen people having a sing-a-long at an artillery shelling..
Those tin foils are no match for RPG warhead or 106mm RCL`s more or less its vulnerable to all big caliber HEAT shells..
Tin foils?...steel H-bar you mean..anyway, if it helps crew morale it's a plus.
However, it's likely ineffective against more modern tandem warhead rounds.
Which I don't think Gadaffi has...he had some Milan tows but nobody knows how many of those are left. He used his best materials and manpower right from the start of the war so most of the best stuff will be blasted to oblivion by now. Same goes with most of his T-72s and Palmarias I think.
    Speaking of which...:

I think it's a T-72, hard to see from this angle. Some assembly required.

Another fix-er-upper. No idea where, but that landmark in the back should be recognizable...

    Shrapnel hit?
nope...stray bullet hit him in the chest. Friendly fire I think, you can actually hear the shot at 0:13 and he gets hit immediately. Lucky for him they put him in a car in under a minute, so he might live..

TV shot from early on, feb or march I think, showing Nimr vehicle. Not sure if it's in Libya, but the comment said so.

cnn reporting from zintan..two points are made:
-some loyalist soldiers are captured several times...the rebels don't have the facilities (more likely, they think guarding prisoners is a boring task) and are actually stupid enough to release them if they 'promise not to do it again'.
    djeez...
-some loyalist soldiers use witchcraft to try to deflect bullets and the rebels believe some of it. One was shot at with 10 different weapons and not hit LOL. I think that has more to do with the rebels aim than with his witchcraft...

In this case, it looks more like they've been into the Kit-Qat.

I could be mistaken, but that rebel at the end there appears to be using a periscope salvaged from a tank or IFV.

This is the first production unit that was sent for evaluation. They only got one and the UN stopped all future deliveries.

They never got any level III or special forces variants. This is the Truck in the Photo. Designed specifically to meet the requirements of Libya. This variant is only level I with no mine blast protection.
