A big shoot me sign on the tail. Great job.
A Tornado F3 has been painted to celebrate the type in RAF service.
March 8: As the retirement date for the Royal Air Force’s Tornado F3 approaches, one aircraft (ZE791) has been painted in 25th anniversary markings at RAF Leuchars in Fife.
It is seen here during a mission today – the 111(F) Squadron disbandment parade will take place on March 22 with the type completely withdrawn from service by March 31. The remaining aircraft will be taken to RAF Leeming for return to parts and two aircraft are scheduled to go to MoD Boscombe Down for Qinetiq testing purposes.
A big shoot me sign on the tail. Great job.
It's not for combat ops ya daftie.
And yet another aircraft type soon retired from RAF service...
Now Eurofighters and Tornado GR4s, future F-35Cs (for Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers), further in the future BAE Taranis (UCAV)
Not a bad aircraft. Not the best in a dogfight, but with AMRAAM, ASRAAM and a helmet mounted sight it probably wouldnt need to get stuck in too deeply. The final version of the Foxhunter radar was quite a respectable performer I am told.
I must be getting old, I've always considered the Tornado as the "new plane" replacing the Phantoms... time passes so fast.
