    U.S. Army Spc. Michael Payne, an assistant gunner with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division and native of Herndon, Va., fires the XM982 ‘Excalibur’ round, March 8, on Forward Operating Base Salerno. It was the first time the unit had fired the Excalibur in the four months they had been in Afghanistan.

    I remember in basic at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the M109s firing rounds that would make whistling sounds as they went over head to land on another range. I just prayed that one didn't fall out of the sky and make a bad day for us.

    Notice at 2:15 that it is being bombed. For half a second it seems that a cluster bomb was sent on this artillery vehicle.
