MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's foreign minister sternly warned Washington Saturday that any attempt to put a draft resolution on Syria to vote at the United Nations would lead to "scandal," a blunt warning that Moscow is prepared to use its veto power.
Sergey Lavrov said in an interview broadcast on Russian state television Rossiya that Moscow had submitted its amendments to the Western-backed draft. He said that Russia hopes that "bias will not prevail over common sense."" If they want another scandal at the U.N. Security Council, we wouldn't be able to stop them," Lavrov said, voicing hope that Washington wouldn't put the draft to vote.

Personally I do not think Syria will have Assad as a president by the end of the year but the current system might still exist.
If NATO/other countries will not get involved why he can't stay for long? He is stronger then the opposition.

The current form of government will not exist. He will have to implement changes and have control over it or changes will be forced on him from outside. Do not think that the Russians gave him free hand.

The Russians will not accept foreign intervention and he will not implement any reforms.

Russia: still 2 big problems with Syria resolution

MUNICH (AP) — Moscow still sees two problems of "crucial importance" with a draft U.N. resolution on the violence in Syria, Russia's foreign minister said Saturday amid Western attempts to head off a Russian veto in the Security Council.
Sergey Lavrov said the resolution makes too few demands of armed groups opposing President Bashar Assad's regime. He also said Moscow remains concerned about whether it prejudges the outcome of a national dialogue among political forces in Syria.

Why dont Russian propose their own resolution, so one could go from that point out?

They did 2 weeks ago. Didn't get very far. It was ignored.

Changes do not happen ONLY with foreign military intervention. There will be a foreign political intervention. It is in the works.

To none as so far served at the UN which is designed in such a way that eventually lead to a military solution.

Now he even kills more then before. The Russians only care about their own intersts so they will block every resolution. NATO can get involved even without a resolution if they want. It seems that they don't want.

However, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said the Homs assault was a "further step in savagery" and warned against a veto.

"Those who would hinder the adoption of such a resolution would assume a heavy responsibility in history," he said.

The events in Homs could end up like Syrian Markale.

I am sure NATO would "do it alone" without resolution (wouldn't be a first now) if it wasn't for the several coming elections (France, US, Germany etc) ...

Well if today a vote is forced at the UN, Russia wants it on Monday after consultation with Moscow, the vote will be vetoed. Some western governments will raise the moral obligation card and things might become interesting really soon. That is why I am saying that it could turn into Syrian Markale. Markale massacres in Sarajevo produced NATO airstrikes.
